Miyazaki's Tea House fits neatly into Koya’s slow rhythm as a small, welcoming cafe that offers a quiet pause after exploring the area’s spiritual trails. Tucked away from the usual tourist bustle in the heart of Koya town, it’s the kind of spot travelers and locals stumble upon when craving straightforward, comforting food and a familiar atmosphere.

The cafe specializes in daily set meals like 日替わり定食 (daily specials), which rotate to highlight local, seasonal ingredients. Visitors frequently find the menu’s simplicity to be a strength—whether it’s the fried chicken set praised by hikers returning from the Choishi Michi Pilgrimage Trail or the grilled chicken and curry rice that locals and travelers alike appreciate for being both tasty and affordable. Sweet treats like baked cheesecake and matcha chiffon cake provide a gentle finish, especially when paired with the carefully brewed teas available in classic or fruit varieties, including a notably fragrant rose tea.

The atmosphere leans on a traditional, cozy charm with a touch of homeliness reflected not only in the decor but in the interactions with staff. The tea house is known for friendly service, which at times even extends to helping visitors navigate the area, making it as much a local refuge as a place to refuel.

Best visited in the afternoon or after a morning hike, Miyazaki's is ideal for those who want to step inside from the cool mountain air and settle into a slower moment with a warm drink or a simple meal. The lack of crowds, especially compared to more tourist-heavy cafes in Koya, allows for quiet reflection or easy conversation.

Who will enjoy it most:

  • Travelers coming off the pilgrimage or hiking trails who want straightforward, satisfying comfort food without the wait.
  • Tea enthusiasts looking for traditional brews alongside interesting fruit teas in a softly decorated space.
  • Families and small groups who appreciate friendly and attentive local service.

Miyazaki’s Tea House offers a moment of calm and hospitality rooted in daily life here—a place more about genuine connection and warm simplicity than trend-driven cafés.

After hiking into town via the Choishi Michi Pilgrimage Trail, Daimon looked like heaven and this little cafe felt like heaven. The special of the day was written on the board as "fried chicken". Maybe it was a perfect example of under-promise, over-deliver. The karaage did not fail to satisfy. Our 10 year old daughter devoured her kare too. She also really appreciated the special touches in the cafe, like the baskets of toys at the table. Our hostess spoke excellent English and she was funny and kind. Cute place, good food, great people. Kansha shimasu!

We went in for some hot drinks and snacks during the afternoon. Ended up getting a coffee with biscuits, tea and some cakes. All were tasty and well presented although a bit pricy when compared to other tea houses we visited.

This small homely restaurant is not listed on the tourist map, hence you wont find a long queue like most other food places here at Koya. But the food is tasty and affordable. The atmosphere is nice and the staff are very friendly. We had the curry rice and the grilles chicken set.

The kindest ladies work here. We got lost because we took the wrong bus and they helped us so much. They have the cutest shop. I’m so thankful for them!

I came here to warm up and enjoy some fruit tea. The Ambiente is lovely traditional and kitten style and I am super happy to got served some fruit teas beside the classical green tea. The rose tea is special and delicious. It smells and tastes so nice.

Really nice tea house! Service was great and decoration is very cute but not overbearing! It is cat themed, awesome!
